MANAGED LINUX SERVER HOSTING
Usually when you purchase a hosted Linux server (VPS) from a popular provider, you are simply
the server login details and expected to do the rest yourself. If you have an experienced
Linux system administrator on your staff then this is OK, but in
reality most companies that require a VPS do not.
This is where our managed Linux services can help you, we will provide you with a VPS of the
required specification and manage it for you.

EXPERT TECHNICAL SUPPORT
We are here to help with any questions relating to your VPS or any changes you require,
such as adding new users and installing new software.
We are confident that you won’t have any problems with your managed Linux hosting service,
if you do are experts are on hand to assist you.
We operate primarily a ticket based support system but our UK based experts are also happy to
telephone you to discuss
your support enquiry, and we can also offer customised support agreements (including outside
hours cover) if required.
Our system and network administrators will look after your VPS as if it is their own and
- Keep it up-to-date
- Monitor for any problems
- Analyse performance ∓ alert you of any issues
- Make sure it is backed up on a regular basis
- Help you install & configure any applications you might need
such as Apache, MySQL NGINX or PHP.
It is important to ensure your system has a backup in-case of any accidental loss of
data or hardware failure.
All of our packages include a weekly full system backup as standard, which can be restored in
minutes if required.
We can also provide customised backup options if required, for example a
continuous/replicated backup or rsync to your own backup system.
ATTENTION TO SECURITY
We don’t just install your favourite operating system, set the root password and consider
your VPS ready to go.
Each VPS we provide has additional security measures configured as standard, and while we
can’t provide full details of the measures we employ (that could be useful to miscreants!)
here are some rough examples of best practices that we follow:
- Security patches are considered an urgent priority
- Use of secure authentication systems and protocols
- Use of strong encryption and secure hashing methods
- Host and network based firewalls & reactive intrusion detection systems
- Account auditing and logging
We can also provide customised hosting solutions for security related projects, for example
a PCI-DSS compliance exercise.
TUNING & OPTIMISATION
We do not simply just do the minimum required to get your application running, we go to great
lengths to ensure that it is running in the most optimal way possible.
For example if you require Apache we will make sure important optimisations such as
mod_deflate are running to compress your web traffic so that unnecessary bandwidth is not
wasted, and in the case of MySQL ensure that it is operating
with the correct parameters to take advantage of the amount of memory available etc.
Our support team and network operations staff monitor your system 24×7 not just for problems
that could occur, but to pro-actively prevent them from happening in the first place.
In the unlikely event of a problem with your managed server or one of it's server
applications, our staff will be immediately alerted and correct the problem.
All of our managed linux server packages include access to our CloudManager™ dashboard,
which provides you with access to current and historic monitoring data for all of your
From the CloudManager™ dashboard you can perform important tasks such as restart your
and visualise key system performance indicators such as CPU / memory /
network & disk.
